Health and Diet Advice for Those with Eye Health Problems

It’s mostly common sense; take nothing for granted about your health, including your eyes, but try to eat a healthy diet and keep fit and you are giving yourself a better chance to avoid some of the diseases and illnesses that are common today. There are nutrients that certainly will help your eyesight. They include omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins C and E that help to combat the effects of age, zinc and Luein. The things that you should put on your plate to do this are leafy greens such as spinach or kale, oily fish such as salmon or tuna, eggs, nuts, beans and citrus fruits. Pork isn’t bad either so you can see that there is plenty of good food to be had. There are no real sacrifices when you think about it.

It is not only the ingredients themselves that you will benefit from. If you eat well you should avoid obesity which in itself can help cause diabetes, one of the causes of blindness, and often central to getting cataracts.

Smoking is never good for your health; it applies to all aspects and you can include your eyes in that. It also makes sense to protect your eyes from ultra-violet rays by wearing sunglasses. Even if you already wear contact lenses, a second layer of protection is sound advice. In the working environment, safety glasses are a must and indeed in any situation where it is possible to injure your eyes. That means anywhere where there may be grit or other small debris in the air.

If you are a regular user of a computer screen, you need to take breaks from time to time so as not to strain your eyes. If you don’t your vision can become blurred, you may lose focus and even get headaches as well as shoulder, neck and back pain. You need to resist the thought that you are too busy to take a break because there could be repercussions beyond the short term unless you take those breaks. Your eyes are too valuable to do otherwise.

Regular eye tests make sense so you are aware of any deterioration and take advice if you think your daily activities may lead to damage to your eyes. Eye tests identify more than visual deterioration so it makes sense anyway.

If you do begin to suffer from visual problems, there are a number of things that you can do about them. If the cause is cataracts, there is an everyday surgery procedure which will not involve your staying in hospital overnight but it is invasive, no matter how minor. There has been plenty of success with eyedrops and you might like to look at the testimonials that people can give to their use. You can buy them online, and indeed you will find them on the popular buying and selling website, eBay and Bonanza
